Meet Dr. Brecken Blades
Brecken Blades, Psy.D. first came to Psychological and Consulting Services (PCS) in 2009 as a doctoral practicum student under the supervision of Dr. Steven Gray. During her training, she developed a passion for creating a society with no more victims by helping perpetrators of abuse think and act in healthy, intimacy-promoting ways. She joined PCS as a full-time licensed psychologist in 2013 and has devoted her career to the goal of “no more victims” by working with children, adolescents, adults, and families struggling to address high-risk behaviors.
Dr. Blades is a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona. She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2012 from the APA-accredited program at Midwestern University. Dr. Blades holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Arizona State University. Dr. Blades’ clinical experience in the mental health field includes a neuropsychological research institute, a state correctional facility, a forensic private practice serving a Family Court population, and a regional crisis intervention/suicide prevention center.
At PCS, Dr. Blades provides group and individual treatment to perpetrators of sexual abuse. She provides assessment and treatment to juveniles and children with sexual behavior problems. She provides therapy and chaperone training to partners and family members of perpetrators of abuse. Dr. Blades developed and teaches an introductory course for sexual offenders and support persons.
Dr. Blades conducts various evaluations including psychological, psychosexual, and risk assessments. She conducts screening evaluations of individuals referred for commitment as sexually violent persons (A.R.S. 36-3701) and annual review evaluations of individuals who have been civilly committed as sexually violent persons (A.R.S. 36-3708). As a psychologist in the state of Arizona, Dr. Blades conducts general psychological evaluations privately and for Family Court. She conducts psychosexual and risk assessments to assist with pre-adjudication and sentencing recommendations.
Dr. Blades works with various state agencies such as Maricopa County Adult Probation, Pinal County Adult Probation, Arizona Department of Corrections, Arizona Department of Health Services, Department of Child Safety (formerly CPS), Correctional Health Services, Superior Courts and Family Courts of various counties, and County Attorneys. Dr. Blades supervises doctoral students from Midwestern University and Argosy University.
She has training and experience related to sexual abuse and victimology, general psychological evaluations, juvenile sex offenders, children with sexual behavior problems, the etiology of sexual abuse, risk assessment and prediction, determining the likelihood of sexual abuse, effects of internet pornography, internet offenders, psychosexual evaluations, parent conferences, parenting supervision, crisis intervention, competency evaluations, and various therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Blades also has training and experience related to a number of specialized assessments and actuarial devices to include Static 99R, STABLE-2007, ACUTE-2007, SOTIPS, Hare PCL-R, Abel Assessment, and the MSI as well as numerous objective and cognitive psychological assessments.
